Therapeutic Laser

avcbrochure_027.jpgLaser therapy is one of the most recent innovations in veterinary medicine, and the multitude of benefits that it provides with regard to pain, inflammation and healing processes are unprecedented.  Our state-of-the-art Companion Animal Laser uses infrared wavelengths to safely penetrate bone, cartilage and nerves without generating heat.  Because infrared energy travels much deeper into the body than visible light, it has the ability to influence cell chemistry on a variety of levels.  Some of the most common uses of therapeutic lasers include:

  • Controlling and minimizing chronic pain without medication
  • Reducing healing time for wounds, sores and surgical incisions
  • Increasing mobility, flexibility and recovery time post orthopedic surgery (see Sadie's story under Hydrotherapy)

"While one or two sessions may be all that is needed for an external wound, chronic pain and inflammation on a deeper cellular level can require several treatments," explains Dr. Lane.  "It is a painless, noiseless handheld device that is passed over the affected areas in small sections.  The wand doesn't even need to make direct contact with the animal.  It's amazing to see how some pets react almost instantaneously; you can observe their bodies start to relax, and I even have some patients that get sleepy and nod off!"
